Pumping Technique Construction

Pumping Technique Construction is the process of pumping liquid concrete to the point where it will eventually be poured. The use of mechanical means to pump concrete is much faster than traditional methods and can be of great help in the development schedule of construction projects. The increase in the pumping speed of concrete is a distinct advantage, and the precision of mechanical pouring is higher than the precision of older methods.

Nowadays, pumpable concrete is one of the main types of concrete used for massive buildings due to its ease of construction. Pumped concrete has many advantages over conventional concrete. Pumpable concrete is concrete that can easily pass through a pipeline without causing segregation and the bleeding is called pumped concrete. They are mainly used in high bay concrete pumps. By using pumpable concrete, it is possible to transfer the concrete from the mixing site to the construction site without causing a delay in the laying of the concrete. If other types of concrete transport are used, there will be a delay at each stage of the concrete laying. To avoid these delays and reduce labor, pumped concrete is an excellent recommended method. The pumping should be designed so that the friction on the inner wall decreases.

There must be enough water content in the concrete to get a good flow of concrete through the pipe, but if the water content is too high the water will be forced to move faster than the aggregates in the concrete, causing the water to be expelled from the Pipe. Concrete faster and causes clogging of concrete aggregates.

Concrete Pumping

The UK construction industry has always been committed to the constant innovation and development of tools and techniques that simplify the construction process, bring more quality and precision to the job, and help reduce the overall cost of construction. Pumping attracts all of these benefits!
Concrete pumping is the most accurate and high-quality method of pouring concrete exactly where it is needed. There are two main types of concrete pumps: mast pumps and line pumps. Both have specific uses. Type suitable for a particular construction project.

  1. The recommended slump value for easily pumpable concrete ranges from 50 mm to 150 mm.
  2. The W/C ratio should not be too high. If the water content is too high, the water alone moves faster along the pipe and blocks the concrete aggregate in the pipe.
  3. The concrete should neither be too wet nor too dry.
  4. The concrete being pumped must not be sticky.
  5. The air-entraining additive is also suitable for transferring concrete.

Types of concrete pumps used for Pumping Technique Construction

Direct acting pumps

Concrete is fed into the hopper of the direct-acting pump. The operation of this type of pump is purely the reciprocating movement of the piston. This movement creates suction pressure inside the pump. The operation of the direct-acting pump is such that during the suction stroke the suction valve opens while the discharge valve remains closed. During this process, concrete will enter the hopper suction pipe. After the intake stroke, the intake valves close and the exhaust valve opens as in the figure above. During this process, the piston will push the concrete towards the pipe and this process continues.

The maximum size of aggregates used indirect-acting pump concrete should be less than 1/3 the pipe diameter to avoid clogging. The movement of the concrete is always in the form of impulses. However, the outlet of the pipe must be maintained. a constant flow.

Squeeze concrete pumps

Squeeze pump trucks, excellent in ease of use and economical efficiency, are used for small building construction sites and house foundation work, etc.

Blockage occurs in Pumping Technique Construction

The blockage is a common problem that occurs if instructions are not followed correctly. The number one cause of clogging in pumps is due to the frictional action due to the aggregates and the ingredients present in the concrete on the pipe wall is very high. The second problem is that the water being forced out of the mixture causes the accumulation of large particles inside the tube. When choosing a good pump, attention should be paid to its length, number of elbows, pipe diameter, flexible hose length, etc.
